Erin Zhai

Psychologist

I understand that life is difficult and can be overwhelming. We get caught up in unhelpful ways of thinking, behaving and relating to ourselves and others, which can lead to a range of issues, from mood problems to self-doubt, guilt, shame, or even the use of substances as a means to escape emotional pain.

During such times, seeking therapy can help us gain clarity, develop self-awareness, and acquire new ways to navigate life’s complexities. I place emphasis on fostering a genuine, safe and trusting therapeutic relationship, as I believe a warm and attuned environment serves as the foundation towards healing. Therapy provides a space to express and explore to form changes, propelling us to move forward. I take a personalised approach to therapy, guided by the evidence-based practice, and the preferences and needs of each client, recognizing that everyone is a unique individual. Therapy is a collaborative process between the therapist and those who seek it. I will share my skills and insights with you, as we work together on your path to growth and well-being.

I am currently working for the Department of Corrections, where I engage with individuals convicted of violent and sexual offenses. I have previously worked extensively in the field of intellectual disability. I started my private practice in 2021, specializing in providing psychological services to Asian clients and their families. My expertise also extends to psychological and humanitarian assessment and report writing for Chinese and other Asian immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers to New Zealand Immigration Services.

I am fluent in both English and Mandarin.
