Christine Waterson

Psychologist

I am a counselling psychologist who supports people through some of the most challenging and meaningful moments in their lives. I have worked across a range of settings, including community mental health, correctional environments, and leadership roles within mental health services. What has remained central in my work is a deep respect for the courage it takes to seek support and begin the process of healing.

My approach is trauma-informed, recognizing that many struggles are connected to difficult or overwhelming experiences in the past. Rather than asking “what’s wrong with you,” I work from the perspective of “what has happened to you, and how has your mind and body learned to cope?” This helps create a space that is compassionate, respectful, and free from judgment.

I take a collaborative and flexible approach to therapy, drawing from evidence-based modalities including IFS, EMDR, and DBR. These approaches support healing not only through understanding thoughts and emotions, but also by working with the nervous system and the body, where trauma is often held.

People often say they value having a space where they feel safe to speak openly and truly be heard. I aim to create an environment that is grounded and respectful, where therapy can move at a pace that feels right for you. While the process can sometimes be challenging, it can also bring clarity, relief, and meaningful change.

I work with adults experiencing a range of challenges, including trauma, anxiety, stress, relationship difficulties, life transitions, and feeling overwhelmed or stuck. Many people I meet are thoughtful and capable individuals who have spent a long time caring for others and are now recognizing the need for space to care for themselves.

At the heart of my work is the belief that people are not broken. The patterns that bring someone to therapy often began as ways of surviving difficult experiences. Therapy is about understanding those patterns with compassion and creating new ways of living that feel more aligned, balanced, and free. Healing is not about becoming someone different, but about reconnecting with the parts of yourself that have always been there.
