Dylan Bellett

Counsellor

“I’m a counsellor, lecturer and researcher with a passion for supporting people through life’s challenges and helping them find their own pathways towards healing and wellbeing.

Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of working with people from all walks of life, supporting children as young as three through to adults experiencing trauma, sexual harm, family violence, addiction, grief, and mental health challenges. These experiences have shaped my belief that counselling is not about fixing people, but about creating a space where they feel heard, understood, valued, and empowered.

My approach to counselling is warm, genuine, collaborative, and grounded in connection. I believe that the relationship between counsellor and client is one of the most important parts of the therapeutic journey. I aim to create a safe, non-judgemental environment where you can be yourself, explore your experiences openly, and work towards meaningful change at a pace that feels right for you.

I understand that reaching out for counselling, particularly following experiences of trauma or sexual harm, can feel daunting. Whether you’re seeking support through ACC, navigating the impacts of past experiences, or simply trying to make sense of what you’re going through, my priority is to ensure you feel respected, supported, and in control of your own journey.

Alongside my counselling work, I support roughly 200 student counsellors on their own counselling journey, sit on the Auckland committee for the New Zealand Association of Counsellors (NZAC) and am a board member for a branch of Women’s Refuge

I draw on a range of counselling approaches, recognising that no two people or experiences are the same. I value relationships, identity, culture, and the wider experiences that shape who we are.

Above all, I believe you are the expert in your own life. My role is not to tell you what to do, but to walk alongside you, offering understanding, support, and a different perspective when it might be helpful.

Whether this is your first experience of counselling or you’ve sought support before, you’re welcome to come as you are. We can work together to explore what healing, growth, and moving forward might look like for you.”
