Occupational Therapist
My name is Sarah and I am an ACC Registered Sensitive Claims Occupational Therapist.
The central values of occupational therapy are justice, dignity, altruism, equality, truthfulness, prudence (action based on reason) and autonomy. I feel proud to be practicing in a profession which aligns so well with my own values. Occupational therapists use a mix of different techniques to reduce the barriers that people face when they try to do the occupations that are important to them, whether that is being able to go for a walk in the forest, shower regularly, self-soothe or participate in community activities.
I aim to work in a client-centered way which flattens the hierarchy between health practitioner and client. I use my position of privilege to advocate for my clients and support them to reconnect with their autonomy, gain confidence and find meaning in life through the activities that bring them joy and contentment.
The sort of things that I can help with are:
- Emotional regulation skills
- Sleep/rest practices
- Energy conservation skills
- Finding and keeping friendships, relationships, community
- Social skills
- Finding and keeping meaningful work
- Engaging in hobbies
- Structures and routines
- Self care
In my free time I like to read, watch reality T.V, go on walks, make art, listen to podcasts, spend time with friends and volunteer in nature.
