Aida Dehkhoda

Psychologist

I am an academic psychologist and counsellor, and a Member of the New Zealand Association of Counsellors (NZAC). I hold a PhD in Psychology from the University of Auckland, a Master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counselling, and a Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Psychology. Born in Iran, I am fluent in both Farsi/Persian and English and work with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds.

I offer a calm, compassionate, and culturally sensitive therapeutic space where clients feel safe to explore their inner emotional world and life challenges. I work with a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, abuse, relationship difficulties, and major life transitions.

My specialist areas of interest include grief and bereavement (in all its forms), chronic and terminal illness, existential distress, and end‑of‑life experiences, including assisted dying. I support families and health professionals navigating the emotional and ethical complexities of end‑of‑life care. I also provide supervision for health professionals involved in assisted dying health service provision. My pluralistic and integrative approach draws on person‑centred, psychodynamic, existential, and cognitive‑behavioural therapies.
